IELTS TRAINING CENTRE KENYA - What's the difference between IELTS Academic and IELTS General?
The IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training tests are designed for different purposes:
IELTS Academic:
It’s suitable for those who want to study at an undergraduate or postgraduate level in an English-speaking country.
It’s also used to apply for a Student Route visa (Tier 4) in the UK or for professional registration.
The content reflects aspects of academic language and evaluates whether you’re ready to begin studying or training in English.
IELTS General Training:
This test is for individuals who plan to undertake non-academic training or gain work experience, or for immigration purposes in an English-speaking country.
It focuses on basic survival skills in broad social and workplace contexts.
Both tests assess your abilities in listening, reading, writing, and speaking in English. The Listening and Speaking sections are the same for both tests, but the Reading and Writing sections differ, with the Academic test containing topics suitable for an academic environment and the General Training test containing topics based on general interest.
It’s important to choose the test that best suits your needs, and sometimes specific organizations or immigration bodies will require a particular type of test, so it’s always a good idea to check with them before booking your test.
